The idea of a Teacher’s College in Cunen started with a dream back in the 1980’s. A group of young local teachers that graduated in the Instituto Santiago run by the Christian Brothers in Guatemala City started thinking about developing a University extension for Cunen. The Santiago Institute’s aim is to help produce future leaders for the Indigenous people of Guatemala. In the case of Cunen it worked.The Indigenous communities of the interior are not blessed with secondary education schools.
